A look into the Canadian soul

Often times people get a little misty eyed about Canada, like it is some kind of paradise, citing this or that piece of cherry picked data.
I get a chuckle out of it. I'm not Canadian, but could maybe be considered half Canadian, but must withhold the details.
Canadians are not a naturally harmonious people, at all. They are simply on certain topics an apathetic/sedate people. Topics like politics.
On other topics, the devil himself resides in their hearts. I mean, your hockey team loses you gotta burn your city to the GROUND!

Vancouver has a bit of a history of sports riots. There was one after a Grey Cup win in the 90's, and this also happened the last time the Canucks made it to the Stanley Cup final. These people went out that night planning to act up no matter how the game turned out. You can see from the pictures that they are mostly affluent youths and young adults. Its all very "frat." Which is to say stupid, pointless, destructive, and privileged.
Historically speaking Canada is extremely violent. Perhaps something about all the wilderness, ubiquity of axes.

I just saw a vid of Canuks trashing a car. That was the quietest , most well behaved , best documented riot I have ever seen. There were five cell phone filmsters for every guy having a go at a microcompact's windows. They were very nearly standing in a polite line.
" Oh , hey. Nice night for a riot , eh?"
" Oh yah, that was a good one.".
" Oh, sure. Gonna have a go at this little fella here? "
" Don't mind if I do. You were done , though , right ? "
" Oh , sure. All tired , what with those beers and all. Do ya need my skateboard for the smashing ? "
" Oh , no. I' m fine. I picked up this piece of rebar here from that really nice guy with the flaming shopping cart ".
" Yeah , I saw that. He seemed nice. "
" He was , this is a 8mm piece. "
" Oh , wow , he went all out for ya. That's gonna get a much better swing than a twelver. "
" I know. This has just been the best time trashing stuff , ever. Okay , well , don't wanna hold anybody up. Better get to swingin' , there. "
" Sure , don't let me keep ya... " & etc , etc , etc.

A few days ago I was in Vancouver.
There aren't many signs of damage, but the Hudson's Bay is still boarded up, with slogans like "Riot for world peace, not hockey" engraved all over the plywood.

After the windows are replaced they were going to donate these billboards to the Vancouver Art Gallery, but shortly after I took this photo, the graffiti was vandalized by someone who spray-painted over the collective thoughts of the city.
