There is assumed to be considerably more cohesion in Iran than Iraq , our best efforts notwithstanding. The conventional aspect would indeed go much as you describe, but the level of resistance by the population is expected to be very high. It's not a fun place to invade , apparently , and less to hold. You need to be able to crack heads on a Mongol , Alexander the Great - level.
