The funniest thing about BEST is that Watts helped set it up and I bet he was central to the Koch brothers financing it, no doubt he was central to calling it BEST as well, it smacks of his ego, so to have it turn around and support NASA, NCDC and Hadley is hilarious. It also explains why poor little Watts no longer likes Muller and is using WUWT to run endless attack pieces on Muller.

Satellite data supports land based data, you may as well sign up on WUWT waiting list for the space ship behind the moon if you think otherwise. Essentially that is WUWT is proposing, do nothing and hope a Alien space ship turns up.

The Weather is good here, in South Australia for the last two years Tropical weather has become the norm, with large rain bands coming down from Tropics bringing with them humid, mild weather, which is great in comparison to the usual Mediterranean summer, which entails dry, blistering heat over 35 degc for weeks at a time. Of course enjoying this weather is akin to enjoying the nice warm water as one's boat sink's in the tropics, the fact Weather patterns are changing, as suggested by the demise of the South Australian Mediterranean climate for over two years now show what influence our manipulation of the Greenhouse effect has.

Once the Weather changes it means it is too late, the Greenhouse has been adjusted beyond what is chemically stable, thus like a typical chemical reaction in equilibrium, the system (the equation) will compensate for whatever has unbalanced the equation, in this case CO2 is pushing the reaction from equilibrium, thus CO2 will be removed, thus the systems that absorb CO2 will be enhanced. Changing weather patterns are a result of the transformation into a high absorption mode. The final mode is sea levels at full height* or a Venus effect where the equation has not been able to stabilise.

This process of adjustment is not peaceful transition, this can be seen perhaps most alarmingly in increased Earthquakes. Receding Glaciers create Earthquakes and increased load also increases Earthquakes, as seen in Dam construction.

New Zealand has had a increase in Earthquakes over the last decade, it has lost about 4 billion tonnes in Ice from its ice cap, thus as the load has decreased, pressure on fault lines has altered and Earthquakes result. Earthquakes result from changes in pressure on a fault. Decreased Ice on the Himalayas results in changing pressure on fault lines a long way from the Himalayas as rock has a low compression factor and thus 'telegraphs' changes from one point in the system to another point over great distance with little loss in the original signal, this can be seen in how Earthquakes can be measured from halfway round the globe.

Increased sea levels due to melted ice means that pressure on fault lines is changed due to increased weight of Sea water, for example a fault line that runs near the shore line, the seaward side experiences increased pressure, while the landward side doesn't thus the pressure changes within the fault and bang, earthquake happens.

The sensitivity of the Earth's crust to changes in pressure can best be seen in the fact that a 6 on the Richter scale only entails the energy released by the Hiroshima bomb to occur. A fault line can be seen as a finely balanced arrangement of pressure vectors, when one or more vectors is altered it becomes unbalanced and it takes very little energy, relatively speaking, to do this. This is also shown by rainfall creating significant changes in Seismic .

Considering the Earth has experienced two 9's on richter scale and resultant Tsunamis in the last decade, which normally occur once every 300 years, things look interesting. Colonel Sun has asked previously "Why aren't we dead yet" well there is a reasonable case that 100000's are already dead and the Lithosphere is ripping itself apart in effort to balance the equation.

Great stimulation for the development of hyper-tech.


*Other mechanisms of Carbon sequstration are floods which carry Organic matter out to sea to be deposited on sea floor, Droughts which limit production of Methane, increased wind speeds that increase wave height which increases Ocean absorption of CO2, Tsunamis washing vegetable matter out to sea and interferring with Organic cycle.
