Capitalism is where everybody gets to own their property; start a business of their own; set their own prices; have the freedom to buy or not buy as they please; and so forth.

Capitalism is the manifestation of human rights in economic activity. You are free to partner with who you want, not partner with who you don't want to partner with. Buy whatever product is the best for you as you see it, sell whatever product people are willing to buy.

Anything that is legal to own, that you have a right to own (not legal to own humans of course, or radioactive material, or some chemicals arguably) is legal to trade, freely among free participants.

Troll shit aside, the issue with capitalism is that it creates winners and losers, and the losers die in the streets. America, to a slightly lesser degree than other developed nations, has some built in degree of socialist policies to ameliorate the effects of capitalist competition, but the "losers" are unhappy with their share, and furthermore the system as a whole appears unable to sustain those programs in the long term.

This is the oncoming crisis for most Western nations, and at the end of the line it comes down to full socialism, where the glorious proletariat wrests filthy lucre from the bloated robber barons and redistributes it equally, or full capitalitm, where the mooching bums deservedly die in droves while the John Galt ubermensch live on in creative splendor.

A few centuries ago this wasn't a problem at all because we were used to people starving to death on a regular basis. Nobody cared before, say, Dickens.

Lots less in the capitalist countries. Lots less. Millions less. To support capitalism is to keep people alive. That is a big reason I'm a capitalist.
