Some thoughts:
Its interesting to note that despite living in the SF Bay Area for almost all his life, when it comes to digging extra dirt on Jobs, such as his final weeks of life, it is the pan-national NY Times, not the SJ Mercury News or the SF Chronicle, who were able to do so. Ditto for the all the in depth interviews and analysis coming solely from pan/transnational media powers vs local, on the ground Bay Area papers.
I was shocked that Jobs has never even programmed once in his life. That alone should disqualify all the genius/polymath/prodigy/visionary monikers being thrown at him in the past decade. A far more accurate description would be...a conqueror, the ruthless corporate apparatchik skilled in cowing and manipulating his underlings if not customers to facilitate his imperial expansion. In other words, not so different from the dear Mr. Gates he savaged not so long ago.
For all the pretensions the man has for pan Eastern spirituality or Zen Buddhism, he seems to have put shockingly little of that (actually none of it) into actual practice. Even the most unskilled Zen practitioner would not dare to call his underlings shitheads, abandon his first wife and daughter for more than a decade, or thirst for such absolute control, even in his own company. Or having no evidence of charitable giving during his life, for that matter. It seems Job's dabbling in those beliefs is nothing more than an attempt to inflate and further his pride, ego, and self aggrandizement, like those 16th century samurai and shoguns.
