The question is: Did drug laws lead to the breakdown of trust between the public and police which lead to swat teams; or, did drug laws lead to SWAT teams which lead to the breakdown of trust between the public and police?

And where do mobsters fit into this.

I have first hand experience with old time cops, the old New York City Irish cops- they were tough and crooked as all hell; a lot of these tactics are a byproduct of trying to cut down on all the side stuff that would happen. It doesn't have so much to do with the drugs as it does the bureaucratization of police forces. The drugs don't help and like the mobs, they have eroded trust to let certain things...slide.

See the difference between you and I is that I am not selling a cohesive worldview that must be defended with the same rigor as you are. I just want people to question their beliefs. The Drug War and regulation of drugs are two separate things. That's the thing you cannot or will not accept, is that we can end a war against American citizens. One that costs billions in taxpayer dollars and has killed thousands of people and disrupted millions of lives.

That seems like a no-brainer for any fiscal Conservative.

I go after you but not Dems that could have legalized when they had all this alleged unhindered power? I want their ass to rot out and take their brain with it on the freefall ( metaphorically speaking in peaceful political terms, of course). When have I ever given them any significant support? When have I ever come in on their side of this policy or said they get a pass? I believe my previous assertions have been to the effect of, " Screw each and every Prohibitionist regardless of race, color, or creed. ". When I say " all", I don't mean the Dems or the reps. Frankly, and I'm not sure why you aren't getting this, in most respects the difference between you people is inconsiderable. It certainly is in this case.

I am not of the mind that Dems or the left in general are any sort of ally. You keep wanting to point out the hypocrisy. Well yes, goddamnit, on this you are all indeed hypocrites. I say let people shoot powdered uranium into their ballsack if they like the glow. SWAT teams for nobody. Decriminalize at the Federal level all the way.

So, "we're all hypocrites" is the place to start. Absolutely. Nothing more Christian than that. We are all hypocrites. We render to Caesar when we feel like it, we don't when we don't. Our cultural quandary however is in the first throes of recovery, rock bottom is a long way off. Long way off.
