Happy Thanksgiving/Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgivings to all who celebrate the Day.............

Or need a reason/excuse to eat turkey, watch parades, get ready for Black Friday  etc...........

IIRC the Turkey would have become the national symbol if Ben Franklin had his way.........

Which might have had interesting consequences: eating instead of protecting the national totem....

Being called a "turkey" being a compliment instead of what it is............

Perhaps we/US would have called the President the "Big Turkey"

If this is in the wrong place, my apologies, and please move: temporarily a current event
For the love of G_d, may I consider I may be mistaken

Yea, Eagles are the traditional Imperial symbol. Had Ben Franklin had more influence over the direction of this nation, we might be a healthy industrious Republic more concerned with our national well-being than imperial pretensions.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am thankful that there is a sliver of hope that American Empire may be near an end.

Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

It's been years since I've been in the US during Thanksgiving.

Relatively quiet here in the Windy City.

Guess most have assumed a similar position as hoosiernorm.

How busy was "Black Friday" in various area?

Was driving about yesterday afternoon and evening. The traffic around the malls did not seem to be very heavy.
Stopped off at a Walmart for a few items. It was not busy at all. Perhaps Walmart is not on shoppers lists?

What is the origin of the post-Thankgiving name "Black Friday".

Black from the retailers as opposed to shoppers perspective, I assume

I have always heard it explained as the busiest shopping day of the year and a time when most retailers recover much of their operating expenses and go back into the black, at least on their balance sheet. It's really a sort of national holiday here in the US and has become a tradition unto itself. The new kid on the block is Black Monday which the online retailers now use to try and offer incentives for people to purchase more things online. We did most of our shopping thursday evening online and only have a few things to pick up here and there for the rest of our gift list.
