I am reading noddy and some of the things Tinker says and realize I'm saying much the same thing elsewhere without knowledge of it's presence here. Interesting.

Incidentally , if we can say an ought is invalid because it cannot manifest , then all Christian morality is to be rejected out of hand. The only reason to hold otherwise is to expect things to be made right by God , eventually ( and that is indeed the Christian vindication of it's ethics- eventually , Gods going to get you if you don't. All other reasons for putting up with the crap Christians do just won't suffice in the long term) .

If you don't think there is a divine judge , then Christian oughts are nonstarters , and it's back to war to the knife. Which it will be.

to my head, oughts come from experience and god is the "just because" answer you can only give to a person who hasnt had the experience.

being on the wrong side of dog-eat-dog for long enough, gives you that experience, and im not really sure rituals or symbols count for much without it... which is why they corrupt... ive got some problems with symbols, perhaps my problems.
