Israel seem to be in the best position now that it ever has been. Pali bombs, which were frequent several years ago are now silent. By putting Hamas in charge the tribe turned the Palis against each other, they fight each other most of the time now, hardly any bombs any more. Can't even remember the last time. Things going really well.

Been reading the Arab press for the last few days, it seems that a two state solution has much support amongst the Arabs.
The US's position however was met with condemnation. If the UN can give Israel the right to exist 60 years ago, it can do the same with a Palestinian state.

And... this would also be an admission to Israel's right to exist argues the hardliners.

Not quite so simple HB. The UN mandate was followed up by war to enforce it.

I expect the same thing if the UN were to mandate again. The Pali State declaring war.

The case quite simply is that a "mandated solution" will result in the Pali entity declaring war on Israel, which will lead to an unbelievable drubbing resulting in a few hundred thousand dead Palis and the re-occupation of a belligerent defeated grouops of people. Which would put us exactly back where we (edit) are now. So why kill all those Palis? Let them accept Israel permanently and make peace with them without a 3rd party.

In many ways yes, but after the Pali drubbing in the end we'll be back where we are, a belligerent people who are the least dangerous when occupied.

I think there is an argument that the Milo Doctrine would probably support the UN mandate, but sometimes I don't have the guts for the horror of the Milo Doctrine. The sheer number of dead bodies it will produce.

You have a point. It just seems so ghastly. But the other part is think of the Israelis, they will be forced to kill all those people. I think that is something they really won't like, so I think that part of it will make me oppose the statehood for now, mandated statehood.
