I assume this troll-thread is where we are meant to discuss the Palestinian bid for UN recognition?

In that case, its not clear to my why Palestinians do not deserve UN recognition. The only argument presented here is that it might cause friction/violence and many factors are undecided. Well clearly the point of the UN is to deal with precisely these issues. The only reason to deny Palestine representation is to permit Israel to do whatever they want to Palesitinans without drawing international attention or the threat of consequences from the broader international community.

As is being discussed elsewhere, the greater threat of violence and warfare comes from Israel's treatment of the Palestinians, and moreover violence has been ongoing for decades. Creating another avenue for conflict resolution (UN recognition) at least creates the possibility of improving conditions via other means.

Hans I posted from Commentary because I was lazy and picked the first article I found. But otherwise it's no matter, there is the truth that they are going to disenfranchise nearly half of Palestinians out of the gate.

I'm reading a lot of Twitter-level chatter from some Palestinians about Abbas being a total sellout and the position he set out at the UN today not going nearly far enough. I've seen less, but assume there is still plenty, of Pastaneta-esque complaining about Netanyahu not being bellicose enough. Aside from the main devision there are deep fault lines in both parties that perhaps prevent this from being reconcilable at all.

I think Israel is on a poor streak in general. The perceived failure of the Hizbollah war under Olmert, the flotilla fiasco and the spurned opportunity to mend fences by Netanyahu, and now the way in which this UN bid was handled.
