There were major clashes between the Ontario government and the teather's union in the 90's. I recall one Canadian comedian putting it well:

"The problem teachers have gaining public support is that we all went to school and remember our teachers."

Those Koch's are brilliant folks, getting the lower classes to turn on each other like that.

I hope the boycotts of Koch industries have some impact.

I'm no friend of American public education, but if you are going to even empower the concept , why keep the footsoldiers at slave wages ? You want to get rid of $250k a year retired public workers, that's fine. But $36k a year , while " rich " everywhere else in the world, won't let you have much of a normal American life . Sorry, but poverty is relative- with that much debt, considering taxes and such , she will have a hard time keeping the lights on, and better hope her worst financial problem can be fixed with a payday loan...

I think the problem isn't teachers' salaries, it's the inability to fire crappy teachers.
