I got a feeling the 'assassination' of Paul atop the crest of the net will terminate the R's claims to said ground.

GC, don't get me wrong I'm not counting chickens yet. Newt Gingrich could very well revive the Democrats, Romney could although a smaller chance.
The Democrats simply have nothing to offer the American people. Nothing. No party has gone from being a dominant super majority party to a party that can't win anything as fast as the Democrats. As such, the broad swath of neutral ideology financial contributors have no reason to give them any money anymore. They can't influence anything.
The particular way they crumble is still not predictable, although one route I can see now is them coming in 3rd place in 2016 behind the GOP and a new party. That is possible. That would be the end.
