Republicans Voted for Debt They Blame on Obama

Speaker Joehn Boenner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell all voted for major drivers of the nation’s debt during the past decade: Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts and Medicare prescription drug benefits.

They also voted for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, that rescued financial institutions and the auto industry. Together, a Bloomberg News analysis shows, these initiatives added $3.4 trillion to the nation’s accumulated debt and to its current annual budget deficit of $1.5 trillion.

Both parties are attempting to claim a mantle of fiscal responsibility, both bear some of the blame. Many Democrats contributed to the expenses that are forcing lawmakers to boost the nation’s debt limit, as have Republican leaders.

But it is the Republicans who are lying and blaming the president for a mess they had a big role in making.

I think the problem here is relying on the same people to get us out that got us in. We, the people, should throw out every member of government who has been at the Federal level for more than ten years.

Kinda like a couple leeches trying to suck the blood out of each other simultaneously.....

Reminds me of an article I read 20 some years ago. The author started their research based on evidence that Big Oil had corrupted leaders of Middle Eastern countries. By the end of their research, the author was not sure if the reverse had not occurred.

I think the fault lies in the unrealistic aspect of human nature that desires the free lunch. Both the populace and the politicians delude themselves that living beyond one's means is doable. Self-delusion never seems to end well.

Too bad we can't have a national referendum to discuss forgiving the social security debt. Make it so that Social Security cannot be borrowed from anymore, and then just forgive the total debt borrowed from Social Security and move forward from there. Seems to me the debt is going to be left to the children to pay anyway, might as well just be up front about it.
