Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the uproar mostly based on Palin not understanding what the term "blood libel" means?
If so, it implies a certain lack of education, but was anybody selling or buying Palin based on her knowledge of medieval history?

The general principle of her putting herself at the center of the politicization of the shootings, as a victim possibly more aggrieved than the people who actually got shot, was a role cast for her by her fanbase, and one she was inevitably going to take up. Nothing worth discussing there.

That's what I'm saying . Either she is as doltish as she is made out to be , or she has a brass pair and is trying to pick a larger fight.
