I think seeing Cain on video for the first time in this interview was actually a great way to judge how the man reacts to pressure. Under extreme provocation he remained calm and articulate. This indicates that he would be able to keep his wits in an extreme situation. O'Donnell did a favor to those who might be looking to judge this aspect of Cain's character.

The "9-9-9" plan is a non-starter, though. The tax code doesn't stand a chance of being changed so radically. The ones with the most to protect benefit from the tax code's complexity, and gain camouflage also from its ostensibly "progressive" nature, even though a cursory look indicates that the loopholes available to monied interests are beyond enumeration. This makes it all the more amusing to see progressives oppose tax code simplification when doing so would actually force more of the rich (along with everyone else) to pay their fair share, due to increased transparency and more resources available for enforcement instead of complex code interpretation and implementation.

I object to the improper use of the term regressive. A flat tax by definition is NOT regressive.

Maybe you ought to re-read my post as well, for you answered exactly like a duped progressive.

It would be very simple to exempt the first 10K or so of income, that would ease the burden on low income persons without adding complexity. But I am a believer in everyone paying something, every voter should have a stake in the process. I think exempting too many voters from taxes creates a voting bloc that is too insulated from the effects of their actions. It is likely part of the reason we have ended up in so much debt.

If having to pay taxes can be defined as "harm," perhaps we should abolish forced taxation altogether, and make it strictly voluntary. What is harm to one is harm to another, if justice truly be blind.

2) Pay no tax and have no job.

The super liberal state of Washington has never had an income tax, and uses a sales tax.

Nobody dies because of it.

They put up an income tax proposal for the top percentiles last election of the statewide ballot.

It failed.

Sales tax with no income tax is great, and liberal approved (thanks Washington State). Oh, and you don't need 95% of the IRS anymore.

Everybody wins.

The Federal tax liability of a single person making $20,000 in 2011 is $1913. If the Social Security tax rate returns to the normal 6.2% in 2012, the same person will pay $2313 in 2012.

The relevant forms and information to obtain this figure are available at irs.gov, and are based on the 1040EZ form, and Medicare and Social Security taxes of 1.45% and 4.2% respectively.

So under Cains plan the person would pay roughly 3438 + social security at 6.2% = 1240 + medicare at 1.45% = 290, total= $5090

Am I right in that social security and Medicare gets deducted on pre-tax income? if so no wonder the popularity of the Tea party.

As somebody said on Youtube, Cain is a moron and proud of it, especially seeing as Uzbekistan is host to a massive base critical to the war in Afghanistan.

No doubt China would give Uzbekistan respect and thus Cain's Presidency would ensure the final decline of America to nothing more than the Worlds biggest Nuclear armed Pizza chain.
