THE VERY MODEL OF A MODERN U.S. SENATOR

It used to be that Sen. Harry Reid had a problem with smearing surveillance skeptics as terrorist allies. But now that some Republicans oppose the Patriot Act, Reid is calling the objectors Osama’s BFFs. Dick Cheney would be proud.

All the libertarian senator Rand Paul wanted was to add amendments to the government’s cherished surveillance law that would protect Americans’ privacy. For this, Reid, the Senate Democratic leader, charged that Paul’s efforts would “increase the risk of a retaliatory terrorist strike against the homeland and hamper our ability to deal a truly fatal blow to al-Qaida.”

It’s not just that Reid is demagoguing Rand Paul. It’s that Reid’s objections betray the depths of his hypocrisy on both surveillance and its politics, as revealed by the sophisticated consistency-generating algorithm known as Google.

Remember back when a Republican was in the White House and demanded broad surveillance authority? Here’s Reid back then. ”Whether out of convenience, incompetence, or outright disdain for the rule of law, the administration chose to ignore Congress and ignore the Constitution,” Reid said about Bush’s warrantless surveillance program. When Bush insisted Congress entrench that surveillance with legislation in 2008, Reid turned around and demanded Bush “stop fear-mongering and start being honest with the American people about national security.” Any claim about the detrimental impact about a lapse in widespread surveillance were “scare tactics” to Reid that ”irresponsibly distort reality.” (Then Reid rolled over for Bush.)

No kidding. In addition, HRC, the longtime gold standard of what it was to be a liberal Democrat was purged during the primaries due to not being liberal enough (Iraq War vote) and instead they went with what Biden referred to as the clean black. Who Biden also said wasn't ready for prime time. Boy he wasn't.

But them liberals had some purgings to do.

One of my long time die-hard LIBERAL friends in CA (of all places) is now starting to say that the current group of Democrats sound like Republicans from the 1980s.

One commentator played clips of Bill Clinton commenting on Paul Ryan's Medicare plan, and also on the upcoming debt ceiling vote, and noted that Bill Clinton may be the front runner for the Republican nomination in 2012.

I'm still betting on Amo's daughter and her peers!!! 8-)

Now for a Serious (Presidential?) Political Debate

Democrat or Republican incumbent: "I'm rubber and you're glue! Everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you!"

Witty response of the challenger: "I know you are but what am I?"

and the beat goes on.....

Simple Minded.

I have no interest In the Mr. Perfect false equivalence game. If you want to pay it, I will stop posting.

Us v Them is not insightful.

The Democratic party has lots of Conservatives, the Republican party has no Liberals. When you bring back the people as individuals mindset rather than Mr. Perfects people as political categories mindset hit me up.

Mr P is intentionally a buffoon. He does not at all believe in the equivalencies he spouts. The DNC and RNC are both political parties but they organize around different principles and demographics. An intelligent person can speak on their differences. A stupid person sees every comment on differences as an apologia. MrPerfect is a predator for such people.

If you want to draw equivalencies, then I will give a list of Democrat constituencies. Please tell me what the GOP PERFECT analogs to these organizations.

NAACP - What GOP organization does EXACTLY what they do?
SEIU and IWW, what GOP international workers unions on this scale are there?

Beyond the superficial similarities of being groups made of people who engage in politics, how are they PRECISELY alike. Remember they have to fill the SAME niche. If they are not EXACTLY the same, then they do not apply, and maybe you can allow for a discussion of divergences.

The fanatics of party politics always steer discussion to the differences in words/philosophy/principles....

there are indeed differences in what they say.

But an examination of the record reveals virtual continuity in policies, programs and actions

after a change in administrations....

bankster bailouts , toothless financial reform, corporate welfare, corporations are human beings, illegal invasions, senseless occupations,

while privatizing profits and socializing losses come immediately to mind.
