Army people like war: money, cushy contracts for their friends in the contracting business, cool toys, promotions all around - it's damn fun if you're not a grunt. Why would any of them go and ruin the fun?

Even for politicians, there's the whole nasty business of losing face. No POTUS ever wants to face a smirking Putin, Sarkozy or Hu. Plus it makes all sorts of nobodies go all uppity just when deploying those becomes politically difficult at home. Much easier to waste a bit of GDP (as CH kindly pointed out in the Afghan thread) and a thousand young men every year, and leave the mess for the next POTUS to clean up.

Where was the "sympathy for career DoD" contingent when Bush was President? MSNBC told me with regularity that the departments were bursting at the seams with career people chafing under the Bush anti-intellectual foreign policy that was ruining their reputations and lifes" work. So there are actually zero of these people? Zero? Did I get that right? Zero?

It's one thing for Obama, the anti-neocon, to have to settle with some middle of the road guy, but then to go out and actually put the poster boy for neocon warfighting at the head of the whole thing? With the silence of Tinker and Milo et al through the whole process?

Hey, I'm not really silent on it. I want the war to end, but I never expected Obama to do it overnight. He's not much of a change in that old foreign policy thing, but we'll see how his style unfolds over time. I am just taking a wait and see approach. As I have said to you for nearly two years, I was giving him two years to see how it would play out. In three months, it will have been two years.

Now they will spend the next few years trying to figure out how to barracks them, do they get their own barracks? What if someone if uncomfortable showering with an openly gay soldier? Though not knowledgeable about this field, but my understanding is, homosexuality is not about sodomy .. homosexuality is when a man is sexually aroused (attracted) to another man.

Anal sex is regular practice with heterosexuals, between man and woman, nothing to do with homosexuality (though seems in Texas anal sex between man and woman too was acriminal offense)
