The real issue is that if Obama does not replace Biden he will hand the Democrats their greatest problem; zero candidates for President for 1-2 cycles.
Right now the GOP has 10-15 people that can easily be President over the next 2-3 cycles. Easily. With our health majority of Governorships, the bench will get wider and deeper in a disproportionately advantageous way relative to the Democrats, a problem compounded by shrinking Democrat numbers in the Senate.
The Democrats have nobody. If Obama does not find a replacement, it may be the end of the party. The Democrats are on the verge of being completely leaderless (on a national level). Schumer and Harry Reid don't sell outside their States. And Reid barely sells there.
Will be One Republican Nation Under God. Very soon.

why pushing so hard to free Pollard ?
