Yep. That's how things are going. Supposedly there is some half-assed attempt at occupying Wall Street going on right now. Very poorly planned.

Isn't it high time that NYC diversify out of Finance anyway? It is a big deal if nothing replaces all of those Accounting and high Finance jobs but most of the people losing their jobs will and have gone through the pain of finding a new career and/or location. I'm not being blase about this transition. I know how incredibly painful it is to switch professions after your twenties. I'm batting at about a 120 IQ and picking up a new set of skills through the rigors of academics alone is very taxing in my advanced age. I wont begin to speak of starting from scratch at the workplace. An advantage is that American's can be quite a flighty and mobile lot within their own big country. I don't see too much trouble ahead but what the hell do I know. Growing pains, no doubt.

The financial industry in New York is doing just fine. New York is one of the most diverse economies in the world.

I think the official city policy might be to actually try and start a riot. The police are acting far more hostile than I have experienced at other protests here in the city. As you'll note, this guy before he got thrown to the ground had assumed a passive pose of crossing his arms across his chest. This is pro forma when in conflict with the police to avoid any sort of hand-gesture being interpreted as a swing.
