Hell, I am a sap for the guy, in a way. I keep hoping he can do something about what we have before us. I don't want to play red-vs-blue. As much as I have already given up on you poor bastards, I really have a strong dose of residual love for my country( that largely never existed, but oh well). I want the Democrats to put up good idea and alternate schemes that might work. I'm willing to believe the guy can pull a Hail Mary at this moment.

But you know what? He can't quarterback a sustained drive to save his ass. He's been almost three-and-out from the get go. His punter's got a thigh the size of a deck catapult.

I was thinking about it again the other day, and I think you are pretty close to correct in that Hillary would have had us all in blue Mao jackets by now ( mostly joking). But going in to what we are going in to, she was still the better choice, by any rational understanding. There would have been Republicans glad to bend over for her for fear of their life. KInda " but the trains ran on time" thing with pants suits.

She would have passed everything they ever wanted to pass within two months. SIngle payer, gay sex in kindergartens, you name it, done deal.

Well we were all there, but I remember being rather conflicted. I believed HRC was unelectable, even in 2008, so I was kind of pulling for her to win. She is now no longer unelectable. She has learned to speak in earth tones finally, but I have no doubt the governance would be HRC circa 1973. I knew Obama trumped her in the ultimate lib wet dream category, but in the end I really couldn't tell what would be better. Right now I still can't make up my mind. Both would have been a leftist stain on the country, but HRC might not have won the general election. OTOH, Obama has been bad but an elected HRC would have been WAY worse, so we lucked out? Doesn't feel right. Likely I will never resolve it. Oh well, if we can limit him to one term we can write him off as a fluke, but there will be quite a bitter aftertaste, admittedly. I never wanted to see anyone as far left as either one of them elected, so there was a no win aspect.

Tinker, sorry, you are still neck deep in the Kool Aid. Everything you said is easily rebutted, but the rebuttals are so obvious that I'm not really motivated to do it. I'm not sure why it is in your interest to do this, but I hope to figure it out.

I think I will however temper some of Berzer's remarks. I do not think Bill or Hillary were particularly intelligent in my estimation of intelligence, which is to say figuring out the right answer. They were wrong on many things.

Bill indeed was someone who lives life with the pedal to the metal, and HRC is among the most ambitious power hungry people in world history. She was running for Prez from junior high.

Berzer is right to point out the power of HRC, she was the first Dick Cheney, the first co-president, and Bill even advertised her as such. From the beginning to the end.

I would not say that HRC is a genius without flaw, she certainly made mistakes and so forth.

She is not better than Obama because she is a genius, she had just been around the block and has a more mature ambition. Obama came into office punch drunk on power, popularity, Air Force One, a dramatic increase in his station in life, hobnobbing with CEOs etc, and thought he had all the time in the world. All of that is very, very ,very old hat to HRC and she would have got to work instead.

In the first 2 months she would have.

1) Passed single payer, full blown socialized medicine.

2) Cap and Trade

3) TARP would have turned into full blown bank nationalization.

4) Some sort of Federal GM legislation

5) Financial Reform that would have been clearly and outwardly socialist, instead of the mealy mouthed mystery meat Obama "passed".

6) "Green energy"

7) Sex in schools

8) Gun bans

9) Talk radio bans

10) Drudge Report bans

11) A Palestinian state

12) Cuckolded military complex

13) MASSIVE herking tax increases. Massive.

etc. You name it, a liberal thinks it, she would have gotten it done. As far as stimulus I'm sure she would have been miserly and see if it was paying off instead the drunken piss fest of the college freshman BHO.

And not because she is any real genius. She is just a lifelong committed Marxist who would not have fumbled a chance of a lifetime (60% majorities with huge popularity/public support). Any blue dog who murmured would get a visit from a mysterious personage who tells tales of Fort Marcy Park. Done deal.

So if you believe in any of those things HRC was your man. But all that is gone now, never to return. That was the one chance, and that chance was blown.
