Well this is supposedly the first gun to move away from direct impingement, which should have been done away with some time ago. But, that could just devolve into an AR critique list.
More to the point is the move for snipers to shoot a 300 winmag. I have no idea what that is about. Snipers are supposed to operate at several hundred yards, 7mm short mags perform better out there in terms of BC and are pretty close in terms of lethality. Ya gotta hit 'em first.
The only people that use the 300 winmag are people that are shooting larger game inside 300 yards. Not really the task of the sniper IMV. The only excuse I can come up with is the desire to use old stuff because it is "debugged".
Which can read "obsolete" or "does not apply".
IMV for long range hunting or tactical, 7mm or 300 SHORT mag are your choices. 308 is good if you need a short barrel, other than that I don't know what it gives you over the other choices. Even taking low recoil into account, a sniper is only supposed to shoot 1 or 2 shots on a mission. You can always bust out the muzzle brake also. Combined personell/antimaterial round is a coin toss between 338 Lapua and Cheytac 408.
