You know the more it gets down to it the more it becomes obvious that it isn't toilet paper vs resilience it is are you prepared for your more likely challenges.

Toilet paper won't help you in a flood, a quick way out with the ability take as many of your most useful belongings should be your priority.

Resilience won't help you if a two story wall falls on you in an earthquake.

Be prepared the Boy Scouts said. Prepared for what? Your most likely challenges.

Harkening back to my Dad's experience in the Depression, in the event of long term economic hardship, grow that that garden.

In the event of social disorder, know how to work some guns, and how to select the right one for the occasion. Toilet paper, ammo and canned goods sounds pretty good here.

In the event of natural disaster, study up on what is unique to your area. Etc.

Had a conversation with my brother not long back about attitudes under TEOTWAWKI, and was dismayed to find that his prep alignment is to take what he needs from anyone and anywhere that can't stop him ( not an overly compassionate humanitarian).

That's what I don't want to see. Under those rules, looters are shot upon proof of intent. I view the core responsibilities ( defend the weak/ suppress the predator) as being more critical at that time, more central. Certainly not a time to add to lawlessness.

From what I have seen in practice, Prosperity Gospel is used more as a justification for an ostentatious lifestyle than for a means of giving alms. Nothing against anyone's lifestyle, but is seems weird that some feel the need to justify it with "teachings" supposedly derived from Jesus, who puts modest living and humility as centerpieces of his teachings.

He also puts eliminating poverty in there, which takes money. The goal is to get people out of poverty, not into poverty. Wealth has it's challenges sure, but so does poverty. Best way I have found to get rid of poverty is free enterprise, so I guard those principles with great zeal.

As for "ostentatiousness" sometimes you need to do that. I don't know if you've ever been poor, but sometimes you really have to psych yourself up to the idea of making money and getting out of it (poverty), particularly if you've never had it, in order to make it. So if some people need that so be it.
