That's a nifty idea. Deals could be made to get credit towards multiple online papers/ mags. I like it. Like any other paper, I only enjoy the NYtimes for a few highlights like Christoph Niemann's illustrations, occasional recipes and political articles, Bill Cunningham.

Ok , let me bit more elaborate my idea :


One could make a venture , quite similar to, PayPall

One buys, prepays (say by credit card), say $ 100 and is sent a "special" cooky worth $ 100 credit balance

Any site wanting to participate in this program, say NYT , or WSJ, or porno site, any site .. becomes a partner site

I , as a user, when accessing a NYT article, I will be sending my cooky to NYT , NYT will deduct a few cent for the article, and send me a new cooky with the new credit balance .. all without any name, anonymous .. I access a porno site, same, my cooky with the credit balance is sent, and I get a new cooky with the new credit amount back (old ballance minus the fee asked for the file) .. WSJ same .. of course, each time, a pop up will inform how much it will cost to access what I want to access, once I click OK, my cooky is sent and a new cooky received.

This idea has many advantages .

- micro payment , payments of cents, possible

- participating partners, say, NYT, pay back a cut (to our venture), from their revenue generated by this

- unanimous

- a dream revenue generations for all now-free but wanting-to charge sites

- exit strategy would be, Paypall or visa would love to buy you out

- negative would be, once you validate the idea, no barrier for the big boys introducing their own, Paypall & Visa


This just an idea for entrepreneurs, I would have loved to do it, but could not get the team assembled ..
